I have known breeders, and I could replace them, but the replacements have no guarantee to breed. And depending where I get them, I will have no idea where they originated from, as a wholesaler my have ordered some from different locations. And I don’t think anyone knows if they can interbreed. I think they say there is around 8 subspecies of sexyshrimp. The originals took 4 months before they started breeding. So I need to decide if I want to risk rehoming these(which are already breeding) or get some more wild caught and hope they start breeding right away. He didn’t think a generation or two of inbreeding would cause any issue in shrimp. I’ve been a little concerned about inbreeding. This batch from the younger one seem way more active. Im wondering if the mother is getting older, and larvae are suffering. She discusses egg laying and hatching next and then shares the tricks of her larvae collection method using the airpump, liter bottle, night light device she diagrams. I’ve also had zero luck raising another batch. The next chapter jumps right into the technical details of Breeding Peppermint Shrimp, starting with obtaining a pair, setting up the spawning tank and feeding them. Not going to lie, Shipping live animals scares me □. Would be great to see them CB commercially some day.Ĭlick to expand.I have not. amboinensis next, I found those impossible to settle. Hats off to you for your skill and perseverance. Like many things in this hobby, there is so much to learn. I remember I found it personally very difficult to finds research on this species. But again I dont know enough to understand what I witnessed. This confused me as science regards them as simultaneous hermaphrodites but mine suggested Synchronous hermaphrodites. But with my L amboinensis I witnessed a isolated pair produce eggs and spawn larvae in sync with one another. They have a mechanism to stop self fertilisation during morph (protandry). I must put the caveat that this was no experiment, just some guy who is interested in crustaceans. Larvae were detected 100 km south of current outbreaks of adult seastars, highlighting the potential for rapid expansion of the outbreak. I would remove the females into isolation and the community would produce at least one (sometimes more) new female within 2 - 3 weeks. I would have more than one change sex at the same time, so in my observation hierarchy (dominance) did not seem to play a role. Really entertaining, but I had no idea of the purpose. IME they are very community orientated animals, mine would occasionaly line up on a coral branch rock and wave their abdomens in sequence. The Lysmata wurdemanni female shrimp carry the eggs for about 10 12 days under their abdomens. Each female can carry up to 300 eggs (green ovaries). They mature very quickly and can change sex in my experience between molts (around 2- 3 weeks) Adult shrimp molt less often as juveniles due to the slow down in growth. This species has a larval development in which metamorphosis can last from 38 to 67 days. I wrote somewhere on another forum all about my observations on sexual maturity, protandry and social interaction. I kept my Thors right next to my desk in my office so I could watch them, amazing little animals.
